If you are having a religious ceremony, then you need to keep in mind certain restrictions that the religious officiants will uphold. Discuss which pieces you would like to be played with your officiant beforehand to ensure that you can have the non-religious ceremony music that you have always dreamed of.
For example, if you wanted to walk down the aisle to Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” (“Here Comes the Bride…”) and you are having your ceremony in a Catholic church or it is being conducted by a Catholic priest, then you would not be able to have this piece because some catholic priests do not allow any secular music. In addition, Jewish rabbis will not allow you to walk down the aisle to that particular piece because of Wagner’s well known anti-Semitism. The moral of the story? If planned to hear Bon Jovi at your ceremony, clear up any potential issues beforehand. If this cannot be worked out, your officiant will be able to recommend suitable alternatives that you may find appealing.
