When you meet with possible candidates for your photography position, you need to ask some technical questions to find out what kind of camera he or she uses. The photographer will either shoot in medium format, digital and sometime only 35mm. If you find out that he or she only has one standard 35mm camera and you will want some larger pictures and even possibly a poster size portrait, you should find someone that shoots in medium format. When a photographer only uses 35mm or any other type of film that is “small format,” the image on the negative will not appear as crisp at larger magnifications so you need a photographer who uses a format that maintains the pictures integrity at larger magnifications.
When you talk to the photographer about their equipment, you should also make sure that they bring a backup set of equipment. There is always the possibility of a malfunction or snafu that is completely unexpected so you don’t want to be left without as many pictures as you expected due to an unforeseeable circumstance. The photographer should be prepared for any possibility to give you what you were promised and you expect.
