When deciding on the performers for your ceremony, you may not have as many options as you believe. To discover what your options really are, make an appointment with your ceremony site’s music director (if it has one) to discuss your preferences. Sometimes you will be required to use the in-house performers, which is not always a bad thing. They will know how to take advantage of the site’s acoustics and will probably be able to suggest some good selections considering the site and your taste.
If your site will allow you to use your own musicians, you have a variety of options such as a single vocalist that has organ accompaniment, a string quartet or a brass band. If you really enjoy jazz, you might have a jazz combo that is made up of musicians from the band who will play at your reception perform at your ceremony. If you want something a little simpler, you can simply ask your DJ to supply the music for the ceremony.
To find the performers for your ceremony, look in the ads of your local wedding magazines, check out local websites, or you can even see if you can find a reputable music school nearby or musicians’ union that could refer you to musicians who perform at weddings. You could also always have musically gifted friends and relatives perform or ask them for assistance in finding other musicians. After you narrow down your list of candidates, meet with them and listen to a live performance. After you make your selection, sign a ceremony music contract to secure their services.
