Save-the-date cards are becoming increasingly popular to inform guests of the date and location of the ceremony well before the invitations are sent out. It makes it easier for the guests, particularly out of town guests, to plan ahead in case they need to book accommodations far in advance for a holiday weekend or a seasonally busy locale. Also included in this mailing is information in area hotels where the guests may want to stay or contact information for a travel agent who is securing accommodations or discounts for the guests.
These cards are distinct from the invitations because they are more casual and often include graphics or illustrations, but, if possible, try to link them to the theme or colors of the wedding. If it is too early to know the color palette or the theme, play off what you do know such as the location or the date. If you are having a wedding during a holiday such as Christmas or Independence Day, use illustrations that highlight these aspects such as a wreath or fireworks.
Order save-the-date cards as soon as you know the date and location of your wedding so you can get them as soon as possible. After they are printed, send them immediately which should be about 6 months before your wedding.
